“Come unto me, and be baptized in my name… and then ye shall receive the Holy Ghost.”
Laney has a big day coming up on Friday!!! She has chosen to be baptized!!
In the LDS faith we believe that men are punished for their own sins and not for Adam’s transgression, therefore little children are innocent in the eyes of God. Around the age 8 eight (maybe older for some) children begin to determine right from wrong and become more accountable for their choices. At this point in their lives they can choose to be baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Baptism is a saving ordinance performed by someone holding the priesthood of God. In Laney’s case she will be baptized by her father. Just as Christ was
baptized by John the Baptist, Laney will be completely immersed in the water and then lifted back out, symbolizing the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Baptism by immersion is also a way of symbolizing being born again and starting on the path towards our Savior, Jesus Christ, and our Father in Heaven.
After she is baptized, those who hold the priesthood will lay their
hands upon her head to confirm her a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and allow her to receive the Holy Ghost. I love that Laney will have this gift with her throughout her life to guide her in all of life’s many decisions.
If you are in Cozumel on Friday you are more than welcome to join us for this special occasion. (pm me for details)
