Helping the baby sea turtles was an amazing experience. Once we arrived at the nest site we were shown nests that we marked with a red stake.
In 2 1/2 hours our family of 7 were able to dig six nests. We found hundreds of empty egg shells which is a GREAT sign… this means that the babies made it out and into the sea. We also found many unhatched eggs. Unhatched eggs means the nest was either too hot or too cold and the eggs didn’t incubate correctly. We also found a baby!!! It was so neat to reach in a pull out a baby who had tried so hard, but just wasn’t strong enough to get out on his own… those nests are DEEP!!! This is the little guy we found! His shell was still pretty rounded from being in the egg and hadn’t flattened out quite yet. If you ever decide to put this opportunity on your bucket list come to Cozumel between August and October and you will be able to see this for yourself!!! Thank you to @CozumelTurtles for this amazing experience!
